It had been a simmering thought for a while. We knew it was only a matter of months, then weeks, until it could happen any day. Everyone jumped in on the guessing game. The atmosphere was alive and festive. HomeFirst saw a country-wide party when the day finally arrived. Employees, or as they were then coined–Homies–everywhere made this day their own. In an array of ways, 10000 Cr AUM was written across the branches. It was a collective achievement. The enthusiasm made it clear as can be.
We proudly call this our base camp. A treacherous climb that we started no longer than 14 years ago has got us here. A climb where we had to find our distinctive way. A climb where we had to adjust our methods. Each step teaching us something new, bringing us closer to where we stand now. This was an uncharted terrain that we ascended, now to have reached an altitude of 10000 feet. More than a milestone, this is our launchpad. The peak is now in sight.
The number of 10000 Cr in assets under management (AUM) is huge in itself. From reaching 5000 Cr AUM in a decade to now doubling it in just 4 years is remarkable, to say the least. But let’s pause, take a step back from the not-so-obvious significance of AUM and try to put things in perspective, shall we?
It is the big number that catches everyone’s attention. But the meaning of AUM for a company like ours is lost on most. This milestone is much more than a financial figure; it’s about the lives we’ve touched, and communities we’ve supported. Each crore in our AUM represents countless dreams realized—homes built, businesses expanded, and futures secured. It is the measure of the trust our clients have placed in us for the most important purchase of their lives. It is the value of everything we manage for our clients.
One particular testimonial often comes to mind when I think about HomeFirst’s impact. Now hidden in the Youtube archives is the story of Archana–a single mother who took a home loan from us about 5 years ago. Because of conflict with her husband, she and her daughter were made to leave their house, putting them in a very tough situation. In her testimonial, Archana asks an important question–” Ek aurat ke liye ya toh pita ka ghar hai, ya pati ka. Mera ghar kaha hai?” She now lives with her daughter in a house she now owns.
We have met and served countless more like Archana on our way here. For her, numbers alone did not do justice to her aspirations. Along with being a financial matter, home loans are also an emotional matter. It is the biggest financial decision that people make in their life. It is overwhelming, the excitement of buying a house comes with the anxiety of paying the loan. Even today, very few acknowledge this. HomeFirst’s approach to this unmapped path began with this understanding. We have worked to incorporate this into our process and offer customizable products that fit the needs of our customers. Hence our emphasis on our customers having a single point of contact. For any individual, their documents are not the be-all and end-all. HomeFirst recognizes this, understands this, and works with this. We have trained our Relationship Managers to evaluate unconventional income sources, understand self-employed lifestyles, and accurately assess income without conventional documentation. The procedure for this method was not defined. We are still covering the ground, learning along the way.
To date, HomeFirst has had the privilege of serving over 100,000 customers, each with different requirements, and for each of them, we delivered tailored solutions. To have served these many people, we now can boldly claim expertise in this segment. This climb has put our gear and methods to the test, and we have come out resilient. We now celebrate being at a height of 10,000 feet for how we got here and what this journey has done for us. We now have set a solid foundation.
The peak is now in our sight. It is daunting, but our journey here has ensured our trust in our equipment and approach. We aim to serve many more like Archana. Hardworking individuals who aspire to purchase a home for their families and are more than capable of paying the loan off. Serving them to the best of our abilities is what drives HomeFirst. We have made a name for ourselves today with the way we work. The result of it now for everyone to see.
