The rule says – The houses constructed/acquired/purchased should be owned or co-owned by a female head of the household.
What if, there is no female ownership? Three Scenarios under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – PMAY 2.0 –
- There is no adult female member in the family!
The scheme guidelines allow male-only ownership in this case.
- For an applicant who is a Widower, Unmarried, separated person or transgender, the house will be made in the individual’s name.
- Female member’s name is not added at the time of purchase/sale!
In this scenario, the scheme guidelines allow addition of Female member’s name to the property documents at a later stage also. Allowing the applicant to avail the PMAY 2.0 subsidy scheme benefits.
Bonus – State governments are to waive stamp duty/registration charges in such ‘name addition’ cases to promote compliance.
With these guidelines, PMAY 2.0 maintains it focus on women empowerment while allowing realistic exceptions and flexibility especially, for single men, transgender individuals and families where no adult.
